Interim Senior Accountant
Location: Downtown Chicago | 3 days on-site, Wednesday required
Pay Range: 40-45/hour
Our client, a well-established nonprofit organization
, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to support the Accounting function during a period of transition. This role will report to the current interim finance leadership and play a critical role in stabilizing day-to-day accounting operations.
The ideal candidate is a hands‑on accounting professional who enjoys problem solving, digging into details, and taking ownership of key accounting processes. While nonprofit experience is preferred, this role offers the opportunity to grow in nonprofit accounting under experienced leadership.
Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and allocation entries in accordance with the monthly close schedule
Perform and resolve bank account and balance sheet reconciliations, including investigation and correction of discrepancies
Prepare daily cash reports and manage cash posting issues, ensuring receipts are properly applied and documented
Own fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, reconciliations, and periodic inventories
Support audit preparation and special projects, including year‑end close, budget support, and financial reporting initiatives

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of 5 years of hands‑on accounting experience
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting, ideally within a nonprofit environment
Experience with
Sage Intacct or similar accounting systems, with strong Excel skills
Proven analytical, problem‑solving, and reconciliation skills with high attention to detail
Inquisitive, proactive mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
