Senior Property Accountant
Location: Chicago, IL - Hybrid

We’re seeking a Senior Property Accountant who thrives in a collaborative environment, brings strong GAAP knowledge, and is passionate about driving financial accuracy and operational insights across a diverse property portfolio.
This is more than a back-office role — you’ll work cross-functionally with operations, asset management, and leadership to deliver critical financial reporting, support key business decisions, and play a strategic role in the onboarding of new acquisitions and investor relationships.
Base Pay Range$85,000.00/yr - $95,000.00/yr

- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes for a portfolio of properties, ensuring timely and accurate GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Collaborate with property operations and asset management teams to deliver financial reporting and insights that support effective decision-making.
- Lead the preparation and distribution of financial reporting packages for internal stakeholders, partners, lenders, and auditors.
- Analyze and explain budget-to-actual variances, working with site teams to ensure accuracy and accountability.
- Review journal entries, bank reconciliations, and general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting policies.
- Support annual budget development, audit coordination, and ongoing investor/lender reporting.
- Assist in the onboarding and setup of new property acquisitions, including journal entries and system integrations.
- Manage fixed assets and perform quarterly reconciliations using Sage or similar tools.
- Coach and support junior staff, sharing best practices and ensuring alignment with organizational policies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 4+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in real estate, property management, or a related industry
- Strong understanding of GAAP, general ledger analysis, and financial statement preparation
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word, and experience working in accounting systems
- Strong communication and organizational skills with a proactive, collaborative approach
- Familiarity with Entrata or Yardi accounting software
- Prior experience preparing lender reporting packages and debt covenant compliance
- A track record of leading training initiatives or mentoring staff
