- Perform and analyze the following activities:
- All U.S. and Canadian payroll tax returns for GATX Corporation and its subsidiaries, assuring accurate and timely compliance at minimum expense.
- Research and analyze changes to the applicable tax laws.
- Information retrieved from Master Tax is analyzed and reported on the tax return.
- Federal and State unemployment insurance.
- Volume is weekly, semi-monthly salaried and 2 bi-weekly.
- Interface w/ payroll to determine amounts for G/L accounts.
- Interface w/treasury to make on-line payments.
- Federal and State payroll taxes for Stock options.
- Plan for ways to minimize payroll, property taxes, identify tax saving opportunities, review state and local tax legislation. Perform tax research and prepare tax memoranda in connection with such planning.
- Represent GATX Corporation in payroll, property tax audits, appeals, and protests. Prepare tax schedules, memoranda, protests and other tax projects as assigned.
- Research audit position.
- Gather documentation.
- Assist Senior Manager with legal explanations of positions reported on tax returns.
- Unclaimed Property tax reports and payments.
- File Unclaimed Property tax reports and make required payments.
- Converse with outside consultants regarding documentation.
- Review state websites for potential refund claims.
- Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent education.
- 1 - 2 years of payroll tax and related experience with a major corporation or accounting firm.
- Experience in the rail industry is preferred.
- This individual should have experience analyzing tax expense and accounting for large corporations.
- The ability to negotiate effectively is essential.
- General experience Microsoft Office, SAP, PTMS, or similar products is also required.
- Travel will be required including travel for education. Travel should not exceed 20%
This is a hybrid position which will require the employee to work in the office at least 3 days a week throughout the year. The employee may work remotely the balance of the time, apart from quarter and year-end close, when work is fully in-office.
