Job Title and Shift
Production Material Handler – 1st shift Mon‑Fri 9:00 AM–6:00 PM, Chicago Heights, IL.
Department & ReportingProduction – reports to Production Supervisor.
Position OverviewThe person in this position will be heavily involved in the day‑to‑day receipt and inspection of corrugate inner boxes at the Chicago Heights bakery as a primary function. This person will work in tandem with QA Management to ensure all inspection parameters are met. When a delivery is not scheduled, this position applies basic production line skills to ensure product meets company specifications and that safety, legality, and quality standards are addressed.
Routine duties are performed, adapting techniques to meet special needs and using basic skills to meet company specification.
- Inspect incoming components upon receipt at the Chicago Heights bakery.
- Use Standard Operating Procedures detailing all quality parameters to guide inspections.
- Identify discrepancies of incoming components that do not meet quality parameters.
- Effectively communicate inspection results to the FSQA management team.
- Accurately document inspections on Excel spreadsheets and paper.
- Place on hold or release from hold in the inventory system any inspection that is deemed unacceptable.
- Maintain email/2‑way radio communication with the management team with full inspection details.
- Re‑stack, shrink‑wrap, and re‑band inspected pallets.
- Sign in and out on line staffing sheet and main entrance.
- Be at your workstation on time.
- Do not leave workstation unattended; notify a Supervisor or Lead if you must leave.
- Work safely, use floor mats.
- Follow all Food Safety and GMP policies.
- Remove any visual defects and place in inedible bin.
- Report dough pieces that may contain foreign material.
- Inform Crew Lead and Production Supervisor any time you must leave the line.
- Ensure compliance with production/packaging procedures and inspect line for operational/mechanical issues, taking corrective action or notifying supervision.
- Maintain line speed and standards.
- Support quality control programs to ensure production procedures comply with best practices food safety and quality standards.
- Pick product, place on conveyor, and place in cases; make boxes, close boxes; palletize and stack cases on pallets.
- Assist with cutter returning dough, helping the operator on the sheeter line, scaling, dosing ingredients, disposing waste, and rework.
- Expected to work in other areas/departments as needed; may be spotter on the production line.
Required
- HS Diploma or GED.
- Three (3) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred
- Bilingual – English/Spanish.
