We are currently seeking a Production Manager in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Purpose of PositionReporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for directing and leading plant supervision in all operations departments. This role will also manage the production requirements to meet scheduled monthly volume/output targets while efficiently and effectively managing allotted plant resources.
Tasks & Responsibilities Safety- Promotes safety and ensures that employees perform tasks in a safe manner, complying with applicable regulations and accepted best practices.
- Leads safety crew talks and works with HR to conduct BBS audits and R3 safety initiatives.
- Ensures production of quality trackwork according to established work procedures and product specifications, with a continually declining number of CARs and a reduction in cost of quality year over year.
- Directs and motivates shop supervisors and hourly workers with high emphasis on product quality.
- Manages the complete MRP system layout and handling.
- Meets customer delivery targets by effectively planning and executing production within allotted material and labor requirements.
- Ensures production planners schedule correct types of work and sufficient volume to maximize plant effectiveness while maintaining customer‑required deliveries.
- Increases productivity by improving manufacturing processes and controlling shop consumables, overtime and waste.
- Lowers the hourly shop charge‑out rate by reducing shop consumables and overtime while increasing direct job charge‑out percentage.
- Monitors, controls and reduces WIP inventory levels by producing exact quantity required for specific orders.
- Assists with estimating by supplying labor costs and anticipated delivery.
- Develops supervisors and direct reports through coaching, mentoring and training opportunities.
- Liaises with Engineering, Supervisors and Logistics in creating manufacturing procedures and works with the Quality Assurance Department to ensure quality is built into our products.
- Promotes a high degree of plant morale and inter‑plant cooperation with sister plants.
- Works with Human Resources to ensure adequate manpower to achieve production goals, ensures plant rules are complied with, monitors attendance and initiates disciplinary action when warranted.
- Champions, models and leads Nortrak Blue culture and values.
- Adheres to Nortrak's Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.
- Post‑Secondary education with a diploma or degree in Manufacturing / Production preferred.
- Experience with manufacturing processes.
- Experience in most or all of the following areas: LEAN principles and methodology, safety compliance, budget planning and cost control, profit and loss statements and quality control management.
- Experience managing and leading a team, including staffing, training, development, coaching and performance management.
