Job Summary
This position is in the Surgical Service Line. Our mission is to fulfill President Lincoln's promise - "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan" - by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's Veterans.

Duties
Assist vision care providers in providing the highest possible level of services to patients. Perform routine clinical tasks, including assisting in taking patient history for review by the doctor, verifying spectacle prescription data, measuring visual acuity, measuring corneal curvature, assessing color vision, and using an auto-refractor to determine a patient's spectacle prescription.

Required Skills
QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Time-in-grade:
Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. Specialized

Experience:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least a GS-5.

Additional Requirements

  • Knowledge and skill involved in performing initial patient screening in an eye clinic to include current instruments for patient intake.
  • Knowledge and skill of the concepts, principles, and operation of modern ophthalmic diagnostic instruments.
  • Knowledge of the eye, eye terminology, basic visual optics, and eye conditions.
  • Ability to plan effectively, set priorities, and coordinate activities in a clinical setting.
  • Skill in operation of visual field instruments.
