Natural Resources Program Supervisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is looking for a Natural Resources Supervisor in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The role involves guiding environmental efforts that support transportation projects across the state, managing the Environmental Services Section’s program, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental standards.

• Supervise environmental specialists in wetlands, wildlife, fisheries, cultural, and reclamation areas.
• Coordinate with District, PCS, Project Development, Right of Way, Photogrammetry, Surveys, Geology, Bridge, and other WYDOT disciplines to ensure timely compliance activities.
• Maintain on‑schedule environmental clearance activities in accordance with the Federal Highway Administration’s NEPA approach.
• Develop and maintain relationships with federal agencies (Corps of Engineers, Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management), state agencies (WY Game and Fish, WY Department of Environmental Quality, State Engineers Office), and non‑governmental organizations to expedite resource compliance.
• Participate in public meetings, hearings, and other public involvement efforts related to WYDOT’s environmental process.
• Provide training to WYDOT headquarters and field staff on environmental services and regulatory compliance.
• Travel throughout the state to support WYDOT districts with environmental support, project reconnaissance, and compliance evaluations.
• Assist in identifying NEPA compliance challenges, developing solutions, and contributing to budgeting and staffing discussions.

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a natural science discipline.
• Experience: 1–3 years progressive work with knowledge equivalent to a Natural Resources Principal level; or 4–7 years progressive work with comparable knowledge for those substituting education.
• Skills: Effective written and oral communication, conflict resolution, supervisory experience, ability to guide and motivate others, basic knowledge of cultural and biological resources.
• Team‑player skills, multidisciplinary background, willingness to travel.

• Educational background:
  Bachelor's Degree in the Sciences.
• Professional experience: 1–3 years with equivalent knowledge to a Natural Resources Principal level; alternatively 4–7 years of progressive work experience with equivalent knowledge.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  None required.
