The Sr. Presales Engineer oversees presales opportunities and the development of complex projects, managing all stages from scope definition through project closure. They are the architect and owner of solutions proposed to public safety customers and work closely with the Sales team and stakeholders to deliver customer-driven, world-class, end-to-end solutions that address the needs of first responder agencies. The role involves the development, construction, evaluation, and refinement of system solutions and architectures to meet client demands.
The Sr. Presales Engineer leads and mentors other engineers within the team. The Presales team focuses on mission-critical communications technologies at various levels of complexity, including public safety grade mobile/portable voice and data networks, advanced mobile devices, public safety mobile broadband networks and devices (LTE), Integrated Command & Control: 9-1-1 Dispatch Consoles, Mobile Video, Cybersecurity, and more.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Radio coverage design and analysis
- Generating equipment lists
- Describing system designs, including creating diagrams
- Understanding customer requirements
- Calculating power and networking requirements
- Participating in proposal reviews and contract negotiations
- Providing consultative guidance to customers and the sales team
- Delivering presentations to customers
- Coordinating with various functional teams to address business unit goals in proposals and win-strategies
- Developing implementation approaches and service plans to win competitive projects
- Meeting/exceeding customer requirements and suggesting value alternatives when requirements cannot be met
- Managing solutions to meet sales, revenue and margin goals
- Driving sole source & RFP projects to completion
- Collaborating with project team members in the development of proposed solutions
- Working with third-party vendors to develop fully integrated solutions
- Bachelor of Science degree preferred; emphasis in Electrical, Wireless, Computer, Network Engineering or Computer Science
- 7+ years of experience in sales engineering and/or solutions architecture
- Strong general knowledge of wireless communications fundamentals and voice/data architectures (public and private, e.g., APCO P25, LTE, 802.11, 3G/4G) highly desirable
- Strong general knowledge of IP networking architecture, protocols and security highly desirable
- Knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF) coverage predictions, traffic/capacity modeling, and related toolsets is an asset
- Strong written and oral communications skills with the ability to present complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Willingness to think outside the box and challenge the status quo
- Attention to detail and a flawless execution mindset
Target Base Salary Range: $90,000 - $105,000 USD
Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
