Divisional Clinical Director for DCSC DivisionThe closing date is 25 January 2026
The Divisional Clinical Director has responsibility for ensuring their services deliver the best quality care and outcomes for their patients. As a key member of the leadership team for the Division, the Divisional Clinical Director will work closely with the Divisional Operational Director and senior clinical leaders within the division, ensuring that their services are delivered within the resources available and in partnership with others.
Mainduties of the job
Providing clinical leadership for the Division, the Divisional Clinical Director will ensure that clinical pathways deliver high quality care and are aligned to local and national strategies. The post has shared accountability for the leadership, management and continuous improvement within the Division and is a key member of the Trust's Leadership Team and will be required to lead on Trust wide programmes of work.
The Divisional Clinical Director reports to the Divisional Operational Director whilst having professional accountability to the Executive Medical Director. The postholder will at times be required to deputise for either the Divisional Operational Director or the Medical Director at both internal and external meetings.
Providing clinical leadership to the Care Unit Clinical Leads and Specialty Leads, the postholder will deliver the highest professional standards of clinical practice in the hospital and wider health and social care system and actively contribute to the effective delivery of our Clinical Services Strategy. The Divisional Clinical Director will be key to recruiting, retaining and developing a highly trained, competent, engaged and motivated clinical workforce to support the delivery of our strategic objectives.

Clinical Leadership
- To provide clinical leadership across the Division, working in partnership with the Divisional Operational Director and Senior Clinical Leads to deliver high quality, cost-effective and responsive services.
- Oversee the job planning process within the Division, ensuring all medical colleagues have up-to-date job plans aligned with service delivery needs and the Trusts strategic objectives.
- To provide clinical leadership in building a culture of continuous improvement of services as demonstrated by quality improvement, clinical audit and other forms of benchmarking. Proactively ensure that the learning from serious incidents, near misses and complaints is acted upon and communicated effectively throughout the Division and wider Trust.
- To provide clinical leadership in building and embedding a Just and Learning Culture within the Division including openness and responsibilities under Duty of Candour.
- To appoint and provide clinical leadership and development to Clinical and Specialty Leads within the Division.
- To provide clinical leadership and perspectives on service change programmes that deliver cost improvement, as well as improvements in quality and patient care.
- To work with the Divisional Operational Director, and Senior Clinical Leads in the Division to ensure high quality clinical standards are met, respecting national guidance wherever possible, whilst being responsible for the sustainability of the service within the financial budget.
- With the Director of Medical Education and Clinical Leads, ensure the provision of high-quality and effective training and supervision to medical and other clinical learners.
- To work clinically in line with professional qualifications and speciality in a clinical service within the Division. The post-holder will be required to maintain their CPD and Professional registration.
- To be accountable for the delivery of key strategic work streams as directed by the Chief Operating Officer and/or Medical Director.
- Where appropriate, to be the Trusts strategic lead for specific clinical work programmes, attending internal and/or external meetings and networks as required, representing the Trust with local stakeholders, commissioners…
