Macmillan Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist

Permanent part‑time role (approximately 20 hours per week) at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 a year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist assessment, interpretation and management of complex physical, emotional and practical care needs for patients and their families
    .
  • Take overall responsibility for a caseload of patients, accepting referrals and working unsupervised.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to plan, review and improve patient care, ensuring services are evidence‑based and cost‑effective.
  • Lead and support the delivery of high quality palliative and end‑of‑life care, integrating education and training for staff.
  • Engage in research, audit and clinical practice development, evaluating the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Act as a resource for all professionals involved in patient care, promoting continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Provide education and training to staff and external professionals through formal and informal programmes.
Person Specification – Essential
  • 1st Level Degree or equivalent.
  • Advanced communication qualification or course.
  • Teaching and assessment experience.
  • Post‑registration speciality experience.
  • Experience managing complex emotional situations.
  • Leadership experience and change management skills.
  • Risk management awareness and evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Computer literacy and ability to deliver educational sessions.
Person Specification – Desirable
  • Leadership qualification.
  • Evidence of study relevant to palliative care.
  • Previous experience as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
  • Led research project, report writing, educational programme development.
