Location: ChesterfieldSalary: Up to £45,000Type: Full-time, Permanent
Reed Finance are partnering with a long-established, family-run SME with a strong reputation built on trust, quality, and long-term relationships. As the business continues to grow, it is seeking to appoint an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function and act as a trusted advisor to the senior leadership team.
This is a hands-on, office-based role offering genuine influence over the financial health and future direction of the business, within a close-knit and supportive working environment.
The Role
Reporting directly to senior leadership, the Finance Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the company's finances, while also contributing to strategic and commercial decision-making.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing daily financial operations, including reporting, cash flow management, budgeting, and forecasting
- Producing accurate and timely monthly management accounts and financial statements
- Ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements, including VAT, Corporation Tax, PAYE, and Companies House filings
- Leading the year-end process and acting as the primary point of contact for external auditors and advisors
- Supporting strategic decision-making through detailed financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting
- Maintaining strong internal controls and driving continuous improvement across financial systems and processes
- Providing clear financial reporting and presentations to the senior leadership team
- Overseeing payroll activities, whether managed in-house or via external providers
- Identifying, assessing, and mitigating financial risks within the business
- Leading finance-led projects, including system upgrades and process improvements
- Contributing to commercial decisions through financial modelling, scenario analysis, and business case development
Skills & Experience
To be successful in this role, the individual will bring strong technical expertise alongside a commercial and pragmatic mindset.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in a similar senior finance role
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience with financial reporting
- A track record of producing statutory accounts and managing audit processes
- Commercial awareness with the ability to influence business decisions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders
- Advanced Excel capabilities and experience with accounting systems (such as Sage, Xero, Quick Books, or ERP platforms)
- The ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform effectively under pressure
- A high level of attention to detail and a strong commitment to financial accuracy
