Overview

The Med Tech provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living for residents and assists with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.

• Provide quality care and assistance with activities of daily living for residents.
• Assist with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice; maintain working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position.
• Report incidents involving residents to appropriate individuals (e.g., HCD, RN/LPN, or ED).
• Perform housekeeping duties as directed (making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, dining room, etc.).
• Respond promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts.
• Assist in planning and conducting activity programs for residents.
• Follow confidentiality policies regarding release of resident information.
• Assist residents to and from the dining room, and to and from activities; check attendance at meals and activities.
• Check on residents who are ill and report status or concerns to appropriate individuals.
• Communicate verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers.
• Assist new residents with move-in transition and provide emotional support.
• Attend all medication trainings scheduled.
• Complete medication cart audits as assigned and maintain the medication cart as directed.
• Pass all medication administration observations.
• Communicate all medication resident needs to the HCD and document in the Daily Log.
• Re-order medications, fax to pharmacy, and communicate with resident family as needed with changes.
• Report in Daily Log; document all medication administration on the EMAR/MAR; report all exceptions to the HCD as documented on EMAR and Daily Log.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Must have High School Diploma or GED.
• Must have completed the Medication Aide Course.
• Must possess both current CNA and Med Tech license from the State Board of Nursing in good standing.
• Must satisfactorily pass 2 medication observations annually.
• Must satisfactorily pass all medication cart audits assigned.
• Must attend 4 additional hours of medication administration education annually.
• Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Must be organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel.
• Must be a contributing member of the nursing team and follow the instruction of the supervisor.
• Must be polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times.
• Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs.
• Must be able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics.
• Must be in designated uniform during working hours, to include name badge and a smile.
• Must be CPR/First Aid certified, or be willing to become certified within 60 days of hire.
• Must be able to represent the community in a positive and professional manner.
• Must attend and complete all required in-services and staff meetings.
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
• Must be able to remain calm and competent during emergencies.
