Exciting opportunity available at The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for a 12‑month Locum Consultant Breast Surgeon. The candidate will integrate within the team of existing consultants to provide a complete Breast service.
Main DutiesThe successful candidate will be a full‑time (10 sessions) appointment in Breast Surgery. The role requires an interest in the surgical management of breast cancer, including oncoplastic techniques. The 10 programmed activities per week provide adequate time for SPA duties, equitable with established colleagues in the unit.
About UsThe Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Services are provided from three locations:
- The Countess of Chester Hospital: 438 general and acute beds
- Ellesmere Port Hospital: 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
- Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: base for community services serving the local rural population
The Trust employs over 5916 staff, including temporary bank staff, and provides acute emergency, elective, primary care direct access and obstetric services to a population of approximately 411,000.

PersonSpecification Essential Qualifications & Academic Achievements
- MB BS
- FRCS General Surgery – Breast subspecialty interest
- Entry on the GMC specialist register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights
- An appropriate higher surgical qualification
- MD/MSc
- Oncoplastic Breast Fellowship
- Member of ABS or similar
- Evidence of presentations of original work at scientific meetings
- Peer‑reviewed publications
- Specialist Training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery
- Training in a Breast Unit with regular participation in Breast Reconstruction
- Inclusion on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register
- Wide clinical experience in all aspects of Breast surgery, as relevant to a DGH
- Experience of working in a multi‑disciplinary Team
- Experience in Breast Surgery for both screening and symptomatic patients
- Demonstrate the use of Clinical Audit within the Service
- Experience / Interest in teaching
- Experience of working at consultant level in Breast Surgery within the NHS
- Relevant experience in undertaking and organising Audit
- Attendance on teaching skill courses
- Involvement in the teaching of junior medical staff and students
- Understand importance of management skills
- Make a positive contribution toward the continued development of the Breast Service, working within the relevant clinical and managerial structure
- Ability to lead, manage, and motivate staff
- Ability to integrate within and provide professional leadership in a multi‑disciplinary team
- Evidence of management skills
- Attendance at relevant management courses
