JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: RN (Registered Nurse)
Reliable RN to administer nursing care in an office setting under the supervision of a doctor or certified nurse midwife. RN must be qualified and compassionate, professional and experienced in providing diverse basic care to those who need it while remaining patient and calm. Responsible for triaging patient calls, preparing exam rooms, ensuring sterile technique for instruments and rooms, setting up patients, assisting physicians, midwives, sonographers and staff as needed.
Effectively managing MAs & Front Desk receptionists. Ordering supplies and ensuring the office is fully stocked and organized. Travel to offices as needed. It is a demanding position but can also be very rewarding. Reports to the Practice Manager.
- 1. Prepare exam rooms for patients, ensuring the rooms are correctly stocked with supplies, instruments, gloves, drape sheets, gowns, etc. Exams rooms in all office locations are to be stocked in a similar fashion to ensure office efficiency, at the close of each day.
- 2. Prepare practitioner offices: place provider nameplate on door, check that appropriate forms are available if not in EPIC, see that offices are clean, mail is in MD office.
- 3. Check autoclave and bathrooms to ensure they are appropriately stocked.
- 4. Replenish and stock exam rooms, practitioner offices and bathrooms throughout the day.
- 5. Sterile technique expectations. Gloves are to be discarded as soon as task is completed, replaced when appropriate.
- 6. Stock medications and supplies when received daily. Discard expired medications/ samples. Dispose of medical waste as necessary.
- 7. Room patients- weight, blood pressure, urine and any additional tests per the practitioners’ instructions: for exam, procedure, US, NST. Assist with flow of patients with multiple appointments.
- 8. Review pap smear results to ensure appropriate and timely follow up. Manage appointment follow up with the pap smear coordinator.
- 9. Triage telephone calls for providers, clear Epic in-basket lab results, obtain prior authorizations, Rx refills. May work appointment phone lines as needed.
- 10. Review schedules for the next day to ensure that appropriate labs, pathology reports, operative reports are in the patient’s chart. Obtain labs if missing.
- 11. Provide letters when needed for patients.
- 12. Administer IM injections, maintain medication log.
- 13. Maintain emergency kits, fire extinguishers, auto-clave and medication refrigerator: cleaning, testing, temp log, etc.
Skills and Abilities
- 1. Ability to perform above stated medical duties.
- 2. Skill for medical office emergencies: deliveries, allergic reactions, vasovagal responses.
- 3. Epic training (Clinical 100, 200)
- 4. Understanding of HIPAA/ Patient Confidentiality as instructed by management.
- 5. Clear communication skills (written and verbal) with MD, CNM, staff and patients.
- 6. Ability to persuasively manage patients in positive or negative situations.
- 7. Ability to effectively manage staff in the office.
- 8. Ability to respond promptly to patient needs, and to for service to assist MDs, MWs and co-workers.
4 year nursing degree, 5-10 years OB/GYN related experience and/or training.
Current appropriate license – R.N.
