Position OverviewThe Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician will be responsible for performing licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. Heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs by Mobile Diesel Technician I/II, the role is considered the lead on jobsites by customers and technicians, functioning as a consultant on the customer's behalf.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Perform minor adjustment and repairs on various truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, differentiates, etc.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment across similar system groups.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they are working properly.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing assistance, resolving problems, or satisfying expectations.
- Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
- Document work according to company standards, uploading pictures and details on Repair Orders (RO) via the company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation in a timely fashion.
- Work independently, managing own daily schedule.
- Maintain high productivity within or near standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
- Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and RO findings.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Maintain the company‑issued service truck with safety checks and daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
- High School Diploma/GED and at least 3 years’ experience in a related field (or other qualifying combinations).
- At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
- Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
- OEM training and certifications are preferred.
- Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
- Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or provide a valid DOT medical card with >4 months validity).
- At least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
- Valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
