We are currently offering a $5,000 sign‑on bonus for new hires in this position. Candidates with less than three years of marine field experience are eligible for a $2,000 sign‑on bonus, paid in two equal installments at 90 and 180 days of employment.

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Washington D.C., is hiring a Marine Field Technician in Chesapeake, Virginia. The role is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and performing intermediate‑level mechanical and electrical repairs and complete overhauls on marine engines and propulsion systems.

• Minimum of three years relevant marine field experience (or two years for the $2,000 bonus).
• Strong mechanical background and troubleshooting skills; able to diagnose, adjust, and repair malfunctions.
• Self‑starter who can work with limited supervision.
• Excellent customer‑satisfaction skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Proficient in use of a computer, Microsoft Office, and service software; able to complete service reports and provide pertinent details for work orders.
• Must be able to work additional hours, travel/work out of town as needed, and maintain an excellent driving record.
• Well organized, prioritize workload, and promote a positive customer experience.

Must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects. Requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing beside, onto, and under various equipment. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
