General Summary
The Marketing Planner drives the development and execution of marketing plans and strategies as it relates to promotional marketing in coordination with their LOB’s merchant VP and merchants for print, digital and in-store promotions. This role’s primary focus is the building and execution of programs and promotions to drive incremental sales and margin, improve the Family Dollar brand, and create loyalty in our customers hand in hand with the company merchants.
After shopper marketing programs and/or promotional events are complete, the individual(s) in this role will review results and present impactful findings to merchandising partners and leaders. As such, the Marketing Planner is critical to the ongoing innovation and improvement of marketing planning and strategy.
- Develop, communicate and execute well thought out, integrated promotional plans that deliver ROI for their specific LOB.
- Ensure that each supplier and merchant understands the role of Family Dollar Marketing Planning and established programs.
- Serve as the liaison for those projects between merchandising and marketing.
- Represent Marketing Planning in major Merchandising meetings, supplier reviews, etc.
- Drive awareness of major promotional campaigns in merchandising to ensure their inclusion in promotional events.
- Partner with merchants to use historical analyses of prior promotional events (i.e., last year, competitor activity, etc.) to assist the merchandising organization in identifying promotional opportunities.
- Collaborate with CPG/brand partners and merchants to assist with placement of promotional strategies.
Office work environment, 40+ work hours per week. Self‑motivated individual with strong inner drive to be successful. Excellent communication and presentation skills with ability to tailor message and style to different levels of the organization. Prior experience in marketing and merchandising. Proven ability to develop partnerships, collaborate and negotiate across business divisions. Strong analytical skills including the capability to conduct detailed assessments of promotional events.
Strong horizontal and vertical leadership skills and ability to contribute to a team environment with a proven ability to motivate others and create a productive work atmosphere. Ability to see the big picture and self‑motivate to take advantage of opportunities. Capability to multi‑task and set priorities across a broad range of projects.
- Education:
Four‑year college degree or equivalent experience. - 5 years of applicable merchandising and/or marketing experience with a general merchandise retailer; store and/or field (visual) merchandising experience a plus.
