Clinical Assessor

The Clinical Assessor is responsible for assessing potential clients to determine their suitability for the services the organization renders. The role requires close collaboration with Social Workers and other team members to ensure consistency and adherence to appropriate processes for optimal client outcomes. (Full‑time in‑office position)

• Oversee implementation of healthcare management services, ensuring policies and procedures align with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., DBHDS, state and federal mandates).
• Serve as a content‑model expert and mentor, guiding the team on practice standards, quality of interventions, problem resolution, and critical thinking.
• Complete intakes, assessments, treatment plans, service authorizations, and schedule/assign employees to clients; follow up on work results and progress toward client goals.
• Ensure the implementation and monitoring of best‑practice approaches and innovations to better address member needs across the continuum of care.
• Collaborate and deliver inter‑ and intra‑departmental training sessions.
• Protect confidentiality of member information in accordance with company policies.
• Manage resources responsible for identification of members, development and implementation of treatment plans, enhancement of medical appropriateness and quality of care, and monitoring, evaluating and documenting care via client assessments, service authorizations, and continued stays.
• Assess developmental needs and collaborate with others to implement action plans that support high‑performing teams.
• Establish an environment and work style that promotes teamwork, cross‑product integration, and continuum‑of‑care thinking, leading to strong performance.
• Demonstrate the ability to serve as a change agent and lead change efforts.
• Create a positive work environment by acknowledging team contributions, soliciting input, and offering assistance when needed.
• Maintain, obtain, and complete all documentation required for a client to receive services.
• Drive frequently to client homes, hospitals, and other sites to assess new clients on a daily basis.

• Master’s Degree or PhD in Behavioral Health / Social Services.
• Registered or eligible for registry with the Virginia Board of Counseling.
• Meet Virginia State criteria for LMHP/LMHP‑E.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and temporary increases in workload.
• Computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Strong organizational skills and timely follow‑up to manage complex tasks associated with providing services to multi‑system contexts (schools, juvenile/adult rehabilitation, children’s administration, Department of Developmental Disabilities, hospitals).
• Solid written and oral communication, collaboration, and intervention skills.
• Ability to respectfully resolve conflicts.
• Proven ability to work successfully in a multi‑cultural, multi‑ethnic environment.
• Ability to balance competing demands and maintain effective relationships with staff, participants, volunteers, collaborators, and the general public.

• Access to clients at many locations, including psychiatric facilities, hospitals, and homes.
• Requires personal driving; valid VA state driver’s license and car insurance per state law.
• Mileage, fuel, and tolls are not reimbursed.
• Schedule includes some weekends and on‑call duties.
