The Behavioral Support Professional (BSP) provides direct clinical services—including assessment, interventions, treatment planning, and discharge planning—through consistent implementation of all plans. The BSP works directly with the DSP to provide supports in the I/DD residential programs.

• Provides behavioral and direct support services in accordance with accepted standards and best practices in I/DD services.
• Plans and conducts supports to people according to their Person-Centered Plan.
• Documents according to BSP guidelines and ensures DSP staff also do so while working together.
• Performs documentation for each shift worked; may be asked to contribute to support plans and attend meetings to help develop goals/objectives with the person; may collect billing and census information.
• Attends team meetings when indicated and reports on people and their progress toward goals; updates support plans as needed or as changes in condition occur.
• Delivers supports in an ethical manner that promotes respect for the person and enhances their dignity and satisfaction.
• Demonstrates the ability to assess and interpret a person’s response to supports in age/disability/culturally sensitive specific manner and ensures documentation of this.
• Assesses and interprets age/disability/cultural needs; identifies safety, psychosocial, special mobility and special equipment needs; and communicates in an age/disability/culturally sensitive manner to people and their families/guardians.
• Participates on the house team meetings and trainings.
• Keeps all certifications and trainings current.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Educational / Experience Requirements:

• Associate’s Degree preferred.
• 5 years’ experience in an I/DD setting.
• 2 or more years’ experience working with people with a SIS scale of Level 4 for Autism or Behavioral Issues.

• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related disability-related needs of people supported.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the I/DD population served.
• Assesses and interprets data about the person’s status to identify needs and provide appropriate care, including age‑related and culturally sensitive care.
• Has basic knowledge of chronic mental illness.
• Exhibits excellent communication and group/process skills as related to each person’s needs.
• Demonstrates assessment, intervention, treatment, and planning skills.
• Is versatile, flexible, and able to perform in stressful situations.
• Has good time and organizational skills.
• Is capable of coordinating a multi‑faceted workload.
• Can work with an array of mental/physical disabled persons.
• Successfully completes CPR certification and TOVA training.
