Senior Specialty Infrastructure Enginee

This is a hybrid position - It can sit in Richmond, Charlottesville, or Chesapeake, VA.

• Expert-level routing and switching across Cisco and Juniper environments
• Strong command-line proficiency for realtime diagnostics and configuration
• Ability to resolve complex connectivity, performance, and interoperability issues
• Hands‑on capability with routers, switches, firewalls, wireless APs, and UPS systems

The Specialty Infrastructure Engineer role includes updating hardware required for maintenance of cloud, network, and telecommunication and any connectivity issues that could crop up, detecting system and application issues, and ensuring the smooth flow of data and voice throughout the organization.

IT Specialty infrastructure engineers manage the security of computer systems, networks, telecommunication, and inter‑application information transfers. They ensure optimum uptime for complete network, telecom, cloud services, cloud storage, and cloud servers. The engineer also improves, plans capacity, and designs infrastructure engineering projects.

A Senior Professional applies advanced knowledge of job areas typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Responsibilities typically include:

• Managing projects/processes, and working independently with limited supervision.
• Coaching and reviewing the work of lower‑level professionals.
• Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex.

• 5+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree
• 7+ years of relevant experience without a Bachelor's degree
• Relevant certifications preferred - Cisco CCNP or higher;
  Juniper routing/switching/wireless experience is a plus

Senior Specialty Infrastructure Engineers are expected to be able to work independently as well as providing guidance to other team members as needed.

• Must have strong experience with troubleshooting network routing/switching issues and be comfortable with the command line
• All candidates will go through a proctored, hands‑on lab where their routing and switching skills will be tested

• Candidate will be provided a scenario with certain items that need to be configured and fixed
• Lab lasts 90 minutes

• Senior Specialty Infrastructure Engineers are expected to go on‑site to our client's facilities as needed for troubleshooting, hardware installations, maintenance, repair and replacement of physical networking equipment (Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Wireless AP's and UPS's)
• Valid Driver's License Required - Ability to operate a motor vehicle and drive distances of greater than 100 miles/3‑4 hours as required
• Must be able to work in active construction sites with appropriate PPE
• Must be able to perform basic physical tasks such as lifting 25‑50 lbs, occasional ladder use, reading, nimbleness of hands for typing and writing

• Senior Specialty Infrastructure Engineers will be part of a group of On‑Call engineers that provide support on a rotating basis
• After‑Hours from 6pm - 6am and 24/7 on the weekends (Saturday - Sunday)
• Rotations swap out on Tuesdays
• Current Team consists of 8 Engineers - So coverage will be once every 8 weeks

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, VA.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $65.00/hr.
