What You Will Do- Works closely with design originators preparing drawings of unusual, complex or original design.
- Prepares drawings, which require a high degree of precision.
- Performs unusually difficult assignments requiring considerable initiative, resourcefulness, and drafting expertise.
- Assures that anticipated problems in manufacture, assembly, installation and operation are resolved by the drawing produced.
- Exercises independent judgment in selecting and interpreting data based on knowledge of the design intent.
- Provides advice, guidance, and instruction to drafters.
- May serve as primary point of contact for complex drafting projects.
- Ability to prepare a complete drawing package without supervision.
- Calculates Weight and Moments changes as a result of drawing.
- Calculates electrical loads or heat loads for specific drawing and provide proper breakers, cable type/size or heat exchanger for requirements.
- Selects proper material for structural members.
- Assists Electrical/Mechanical engineers for stress/electrical/mechanical calculations.
- Revises drawings to reflect As-Installed Conditions.
- Ability to utilize World Wide Web for research.
- Ability to research existing conditions and where to find that information.
- 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field. 4 years of additional equivalent experience can be substituted for a BA/BS.
- Candidate must be a recent graduate with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering or pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering. ABET accreditation is preferred;
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required prior to starting employment. - Ability to lead Site Visits to vessels and shore sites to gather technical data for drawing development.
- Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, Solid Works Electrical, or similar) and complete knowledge of drafting and design standards.
- Strong understanding of electrical and electronic components, circuits, and systems; knowledge of industry standards for electrical drawings and schematics.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- Thorough knowledge of Model Space/Paper Space techniques.
- Complete understanding of Weight Group assignments for Ships Systems and manual for BSCI/ESWBS grouping.
Office, industrial or shipboard environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances during site surveys. Lifting and moving of materials not to exceed the guidelines set for one man lift. Must be able to perform site surveys and carry a laptop computer.
