Overview
Construction Materials Testing Field Technician role with Froehling & Robertson, Inc. (F&R).
Location:
Chesapeake, VA. Travel to construction sites for field inspections and basic soil and concrete tests under supervision; data is entered in the field for immediate transmission to Project Managers.
- Perform field materials testing of soil, asphalt, masonry and concrete
- Prepare detailed field reports with all relevant test results and observations
- Perform laboratory tests on soil and concrete and prepare reports of results
- Evaluate site and subgrade conditions on construction projects and provide recommendations
- Communicate with clients, contractors, and engineering/technical staff regarding construction issues
Support career development within the team; participate in career progression planning with your manager as you gain experience and qualifications.
Qualifications- A High School Diploma (or equivalent)
- Prior construction or field testing experience preferred
- ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, WACEL, or ICC certifications in soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry are a plus
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and within teams
- Detail oriented
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Problem solver who can handle multiple variables
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, and perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment
- Must be able to walk and stand continuously
- Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 70 pounds
- Willing to participate in and pass pre-employment screening (background, drug, driving record)
- Requires a valid, clean driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites
- Must maintain a safe driving record to meet travel requirements
