Summary of Position (Job Purpose)
Analyze monthly MD and shrink activity to identify trends and/or issues and proper accounting
Responsible for research and determination of appropriate inventory accounting entries as necessary for the Retail Stock Ledger
RSL), Retek, and General Ledger (GL), collaborate with cross-functional teams and field operations to resolve discrepancies.Perform monthly reconciliations of GL accounts, investigate variances, and work with IT to resolve underlying system or data issues.
Prepare and compile monthly inventory related financial reporting package.
Lead recurring markdown review meetings with key business partners and provide insights and recommendations.
Responsible for maintaining and updating internal controls documentation over the company’s inventory
Serve as the primary inventory contact for internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits, including preparing required audit work papers.
Prepare all required recurring and ad hoc inventory-related journal entries.
Assist in the design and implementation of IT initiatives related to inventory, ensuring accounting considerations are properly addressed.
For inventory issues, partner with merchandising, store, and DC teams to identify and analyze. This includes creating SQL queries to investigate root causes and propose corrective actions.
Review and support the Physical Inventory process and resolve related issues as needed.
Prepare and own the budget/forecast process for shrink, markdowns, capital DC cost, inventory service, and other relevant accounts
BS in Accounting, Finance or other related area
Minimum of 4 years general accounting experience (public or private) or similar
Microsoft Excel experience
General knowledge of inventory transactions and how they flow through financial systems
Good communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
Good analytical skills and attention to detail
Self starter with ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
SQL Writing Experience
Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, or Alteryx Designer Experience
Basic understanding of the retail method of inventory accounting
Retail Inventory experience
CPA and/or MBA desired but not required
