We are seeking experienced dynamic, energetic and committed children trained nurses to become our next Band 6 Deputy Sisters.
At St Peter's we have a dedicated Paediatric Emergency department which is situated alongside the general A&E Department. It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is staffed by an amazing team of paediatricians and paediatric nurses who work together delivering high quality care.
Main duties of the jobThe post holder will provide visible, credible professional clinical leadership for the nursing team in Paediatric ED on a shift by shift basis.
They will need to ensure the nursing care delivered is of high quality, research based and is patient and family focused. The post holder will be a role model for junior team members supporting and promoting a learning environment and a daily basis will lead, manage and facilitate the effective and efficient use of allocated resources and ensure the smooth patient flow from paediatric ED through to the ward.

Job responsibilitiesClinical
- To be clinically able to undertake and direct high quality research based clinical nursing care, sharing expertise with the nursing team.
- Develop and maintain own competence in agreed basic and advanced clinical skills.
- Demonstrate clinical knowledge/expertise at the level of advance practice in field relevant to clinical speciality.
- To have excellent verbal and written communication skills so that professional advice or care guidance and instructions are well understood by patients, their relatives and/or carers and members of the multidisciplinary team.
- To manage clinical situations that may be challenging and distressing for junior staff, ensuring the needs of the child and family are paramount.
- To ensure effective patient flow through the department ensuring pathways and processes in place for safe discharge, transfer or admission.
- Regularly check patient care documentation to see that all aspects of care have been considered, individual patients needs identified and that an appropriate plan made in relation to meeting the identified needs.
- Function as an effective role model in the clinical setting in demonstrating the application of breadth and depth of nursing knowledge and skills, and in advising and supporting members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Facilitate the professional development of other nurses working closely with the Clinical Practice Educators. Supports and mentors junior colleagues.
