Staff Nurse, Band 5, Swan Ward (Full time, Secondment post for 12 months)

Swan ward is looking for dynamic staff nurses to work on this 35 bedded, orthopaedic ward, for a 12 month period to cover a secondment vacancy. The ward accommodates emergency and elective trauma and orthopaedic patients, including pre-operative, peri-operative, post-operative and inpatient rehabilitation care needs.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide specialist clinical support and knowledge to patients within the Orthopaedic ward.
  • Act as an effective role model and demonstrate effective organisational and leadership skills
  • Contribute towards developing and maintaining a suitable and stimulating learning environment for the ongoing professional development for professional staff and students.
  • Support the Divisional Chief Nurse in the establishment of a good working atmosphere and in making the most efficient/ effective use of staff, supplies and service
  • Develop effective working relationships with patients, carers, relatives and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To provide high quality care to the patients admitted to the Orthopaedic ward in relevant areas of practice and manage areas of practice in the absence of senior staff.
  • Post op and pre-op care of orthopaedic patients, including their inpatient rehabilitation
  • Delivering high quality direct patient care
  • Medication administration
  • Care planning, implementation and evaluation, including nursing assessment, care plans and risk assessment completion and review.
  • Communicate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team, patients, families and their carers
  • Maintain best practice, ensuring compliance with evidence-based practice and research
  • Maintain skills, knowledge and competencies adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct, and the Trusts policies and procedures
