Summary

Are you an hearing screener with an advanced level of competence looking to move into a leadership role and to gain experience of supporting and managing a team to deliver the newborn hearing screen at Ashford and St Peters and The Royal Surrey County Hospitals?

We are looking for a motivated, conscientious individual with a flexible, adaptable approach to join our established team of screeners. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, preferably with experience of working with young babies and children and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Work as a member of the team participating in the hearing screening of newborn babies under the supervision of the site lead.
  • Gather and accurately record clinical and test data relevant to the screening process that meets national quality standards.
  • Directly handle newborn babies and contact parents.
  • Line manage teams and provide support for all teams, providing 6-day cover as required in the absence of the management team.
  • Act as the first point of contact for resolution or operational and local issues as they arise.
  • Represent the Site Leads and NHSP managers in their absence.
  • Oversee staff rosters, ensure sufficient coverage and submit shifts online.
  • Monitor the performance of the team and carry out yearly one-to-ones and competency assessments.
Qualifications
  • Must be educated to A level standard (or equivalent) as a minimal requirement.
  • Good computer skills and IT awareness are essential; deaf awareness would be an advantage.
  • Experience of working in the Newborn Hearing Screening Programme is essential.
  • Must be able to work well as part of a team and also on your own initiative.
  • Methodical and well organised with the ability to prioritise workload to ensure all babies are screened.
  • Must remain calm when under pressure as you will be required to cover busy postnatal wards and clinics alone.
  • Adaptable approach to role including administrative aspects is important.
  • DBS clearance is required; criminal records bureau clearance is required.
  • Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle would be desirable due to travel requirements.
