What To Expect
As an Apprentice Electrician with the Tesla Energy Commercial Deployment team you will have the opportunity to work under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Electrician on all phases of commercial PV, energy storage and super charging stations. Skills in all areas of electrical are not necessarily required, but the job can and will involve a variety of electrical disciplines and a strong candidate will be able to perform a variety of electrical tasks from distribution/production power, lighting and low voltage.
Working as a team with the entire energy department, the apprentice electrician assists with new installation of power distribution, transformers, lighting, and electrical equipment up to 480 VAC up to 1000 VDC, inverters, batteries, DC strings under the guidance of a Licensed Electrician.
This role is 80% travel.
What You'll Do- Maintaining and troubleshooting various types of electrical components
- Uses complex electrical schematics and blueprints
- Consulting manuals, reading and interpreting diagrams, blueprints, and schematics
- Performs a wide variety of job scopes (installing modules, racking and any other required tasks assigned to him/her)
- Displays positive attitudes and practices good work ethics that reflects the mission, philosophy, and goals of the company
- Complete tasks in a timely manner and provide feedback
- Must have compliant government issued identification for domestic air travel and/or to access certain federal facilities, must have a valid driver’s license and must be a Registered Trainee with the DIR or able to register and enroll in a state approved trainee course
- Knowledge of basic electrical theory and Ohm’s law and must have 1-4 years of electrical experience, knowledge of using hand tools, electrical meter, and testing equipment
- Able to size conductors, conduits and use NEC Code Book; experience working with 120/208, 480/277 VAC, ability to interpret electrical prints and schematics
- Ability to install electrical equipment, produce parts lists and work plans based off drawings or field walks and routing, produce as-built drawing for work performed, test and commission all work per Tesla procedures
- Ability to complete job scopes outside of normal core competencies as required, strong working knowledge of job site safety with the ability to thoroughly evaluate job hazards and complete pre-work task planning with an emphasis on identifying electrical hazards and proper safety procedures
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. frequently, work in high elevation, work in extreme environments, perform repetitive duties for prolonged periods, strong interpersonal skills, interact with all levels of management, high degree of initiative, and the ability to work alone and effectively with other people. OSHA 10 or 30, CPR plus Reach Fork, Boom Lift, Manlift, Forklift certification is a plus.
- Ability to travel to numerous sites daily and travel up to 2 weeks at a time with short notice, flexibility to work on weekends and/or overtime, overnight stays to support Tesla’s critical mission
