Senior System Engineer

Job Summary /Objective

The Senior Systems Engineer – Cloud Engineering is responsible for being a senior counterpart of Cloud engineers to design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and reliable infrastructure solutions across multiple cloud environments. This role involves driving automation, optimizing Infra environments, ensuring operational excellence, and collaborating with application and architecture teams to enable seamless Project/BAU delivery.

Key Responsibilities & Duties(essential to the job)

Technical & Delivery Responsibilities

End to End Ownership on Infra deployment, and maintenance of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) ensuring availability and stability.
Provide hands-on technical support across Cloud (AWS/Azure) and On-premises (Linux) platforms — including architecture, deployment, automation, and cost optimization.
Lead implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
Manage cloud provisioning, configuration, and governance while enforcing compliance and security protocols as directed by the Security team.
Operate, consolidate, and improve observability platforms (Datadog primary, but also Grafana, Dynatrace, and more) to ensure system reliability and performance.
Drive adoption of automation across environments for provisioning, monitoring, and incident response.
Collaborate with development teams to ensure efficient environment setup, deployment, and rollback strategies.
Ensure compliance, governance, and adherence to IT security standards.
Participate in incident and problem management processes for critical infrastructure components.
Drive continuous optimization of cloud spend and operational efficiency through automation and process improvements.
Conduct capacity planning, performance tuning, and Backup restore/DR exercise, when necessity.
Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions to ensure platform reliability and availability.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Act as the primary technical point of contact for Cloud Engineering team
Work closely with application, architecture, and operations teams to align infrastructure and Dev Ops initiatives with business needs.
Participate in project planning, architecture reviews, and operational readiness assessments.
Communicate status updates, risks, and improvements effectively to leadership and stakeholders.

Key Skills &

Qualifications:

Experience:

Minimum 10 years in Infra/Cloud engineering, with capability to guide the team technically and mentor the team as and when required.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, capable of diagnosing issues across the full technology payloads.
Excellent written and verbal communication; able to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated leadership: mentoring peers, influencing technical direction, and modelling best practices.
Ability to work independently to identify, design, and implement solutions that improve cloud platforms and engineering practices.
Brings strong business awareness, balancing technical decisions with product and organizational priorities.
Solid understanding, Hands on experience of Linux system administration is a Must.
Hands-on/Extended experience Cloud Infrastructure engineering.
Deep expertise in AWS cloud services (ECS, RDS, Lambda, VPC, IAM, etc.);
Azure experience a plus.
Proficiency or Working knowledge in IaC (Terraform, Cloud Formation)
Knowledge of scripting languages is an added advantage (Python, Bash, Power Shell).

Soft Skills:

Strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management capabilities.
Certifications (Preferred):  AWS Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional), Linux Foundation Administration certifications (LFCS, LFCE,LPI), Terraform certification by Hashi Corp.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
