The Early Years Programme (EYP) Teacher plays a pivotal role in nurturing the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development of children aged 3–6 years through a play-based and inquiry-driven curriculum. Guided by the IB philosophy and the school’s vision, the teacher designs meaningful, engaging learning experiences that cultivate curiosity, independence, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning. The role requires strong collaboration with co-teachers, specialists, and parents to ensure each child’s holistic growth within a safe, inclusive, and joyful learning environment.
Role & Responsibilities:
Responsible for planning and facilitating transdisciplinary, inquiry-based learning experiences integrating early literacy, numeracy, science, arts, and social understanding in alignment with the IB framework; creating a warm, developmentally appropriate classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and self-expression; implementing play-based and hands-on learning strategies to address diverse learning needs; observing, assessing, and documenting student progress using formative and summative assessment tools; maintaining student portfolios and reflective records;
collaborating regularly with colleagues, teaching assistants, and the PYP Coordinator to ensure effective planning and reflective teaching practices; communicating consistently with parents through conferences, progress reports, and regular updates on student development and wellbeing; integrating storytelling, music, movement, and age-appropriate technology into daily instruction to enhance engagement; fostering positive social interactions and modelling respectful, empathetic behaviour; supporting inclusive practices by working closely with the SEN team to address individual learning needs;
participating actively in professional development programmes, curriculum planning meetings, and school initiatives; and contributing to a nurturing classroom culture that promotes independence, resilience, and foundational skill development.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Education from a recognized institution, with specialization in Early Years / Pre-Primary Education preferred; IB PYP or Early Years professional development certification (such as “Making the PYP Happen”) preferred; strong understanding of child development principles and early childhood pedagogy.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum 3 years of teaching experience in an Early Years or IB PYP setting, with demonstrated expertise in facilitating play-based and inquiry-led learning environments; proven ability to design developmentally appropriate learning engagements that build foundational literacy and numeracy skills; strong classroom management, interpersonal, and communication skills suited for young learners; and a nurturing, patient, creative, and enthusiastic approach to early childhood education.
