An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Health Care Assistant at Charlton lane Hospital. Willow Ward is a 16‑bedded ward for predominantly older adults with an organic mental illness.

Desirable experience includes caring for elderly, facilitation of positive engagement and activities with people with dementia. The successful candidate will be supported by the unit manager in mandatory, statutory and dementia training. Upon commencing you will participate in a comprehensive trust and unit induction to ensure you feel skilled and supported for this challenging role.

The post is funded at 37.5 hours per week (full time) with a 7.5 hour rotational shift system. Flexible working arrangements will be considered where operationally possible.

• Assist qualified staff in providing care as detailed in individual care plans; undertake tasks that facilitate the smooth running of the ward and liaise with other departments to ensure a safe environment (e.g., Hotel Services).
• Assist with medication administration and medical dressings, hold pagers for first response, prepare for admissions, and perform escort and driving duties, including periods of extended autonomous activity.
• Provide necessary physical care to patients to complete daily living activities: personal hygiene, diet and fluid intake, clothing and laundry, personal environment, maintaining rest and sleep, activity, and physical observations.
• Initiate, coordinate and run ward and community‑based social and recreational activities for ward patients, including individual and group activities, with occasional autonomy.
• Accurately record physical observations (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, general and special visual observations) and collect fluid, sputum, and faecal samples as required.
• Ensure a range of social and recreational activities is always available in the unit/ward and can be implemented by staff at other times.
• Initiate and develop rapport with patients to balance activity, socialisation and rest.
• Liaise effectively with nursing staff, multidisciplinary teams and allied health professionals.
• Participate in team handovers, providing verbal reports or making presentations to the immediate or wider multidisciplinary team.

Experience and training requirements are outlined in the Job Description/Person Specification. All successful applicants will have the opportunity to undertake a Level 3 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship, including the Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare. Applicants must meet Care Certificate standards and demonstrate compassion and safety in line with the Code of Conduct for Health Care Assistants/Healthcare Support Workers.
