Job Description SummarySystems engineering is a cross‑functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. It considers both business and technical needs of the customers to deliver a quality product that meets user needs. The discipline executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems—identifying and quantifying system requirements, creating alternate design concepts, performing design trade studies, selecting and implementing the best designs, and verifying that the design is properly integrated and executed from concept to production to operation.
This role impacts the team's ability to achieve service, quality, and timeliness objectives. It is subject to operating policy objectives, offers moderate autonomy, and requires high levels of operational judgment to achieve outcomes.
- Manages a small to medium team of senior professionals and others; requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influences the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including resource control and policy formulation.
- Interprets internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
- Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering. Assesses quality of information, asks pertinent questions to stakeholders, offers new solutions outside set parameters, and constructs recommendations using multiple internal and external sources.
- May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics, guiding others to consider alternative viewpoints.
- Significant experience in Engineering/Technology & Systems Engineering Management. Knowledge level comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with relevant experience).
