Trust Registrar in Care of the Elderly - ST3+

The COTE services are led by Dr Helen Alexander as the COTE Clinical Lead. COTE has 15 Consultants who have roles across a number of Care of the Elderly and frailty services within the Trust. The successful applicant will be part of a dedicated team providing in‑and out‑patient services with no on‑call commitment, and will join a 1 in 7 weekend rota reviewing inpatients and working on the frailty unit.

We anticipate that the applicant for this post will have MRCP, be at ST3+ with geriatric medicine experience within the NHS, and have an evidenced commitment to a career in geriatric medicine. The post offers focussed experience in frailty work and interface medicine on a Frailty Assessment Unit and Frailty Virtual Ward, with opportunity to develop subspecialty skills. This role is suitable for a candidate seeking out‑of‑programme experience or preparing to become a Specialist Doctor or CESR.

Educational supervision will be provided by a geriatrician, and completion of a quality improvement project and poster presentation or publication will be encouraged.

Our Care of the Elderly Team consists of 13 geriatricians working across Gloucester Royal Hospital, Cheltenham General Hospital and the seven Community Hospitals in Gloucestershire. We also provide community frailty services, movement disorders clinics, falls and syncope clinics. The Frailty Assessment Service is a multidisciplinary service assessing patients in ED and on the Frailty Assessment Unit, and also receives patients directly from the community.

The Frailty Virtual Ward is a technology‑enabled service that supports patients to receive hospital‑level care at home and is part of a wider Virtual Hospital.

The successful applicant will provide in‑ and out‑patient services and will contribute to the development of new services such as Peri‑Operative Medicine, Oncology and heart‑failure liaison.
