Overview
The Nursery School is a small setting located in Charlton Kings. We are looking for a passionate Early Years Apprentice to join our small and dedicated team. You ll be working within the team to create a safe, inspiring and inclusive environment where children can learn and grow. You will play a key part in the early years of a child s life, shaping their early learning experiences whilst building strong relationships with children, families and colleagues.
Responsibilities- Provide inclusive play and learning opportunities for all children attending The Nursery School.
- Adhere to the EYFS Framework and deliver The Nursery School Educational Programme with enthusiasm, loyalty and motivation.
- Respond to each child s needs for individual care and attention.
- Act as a Key Person to a group of children; reflect key children s needs in activity planning.
- Work in partnership with parents and as part of a team with good communication and relationships with colleagues.
- Work within the setting s policies and procedures; promote positive values and good child behaviour in line with the positive behaviour policy.
- Be aware of children s special educational needs and disabilities.
- Recognise and act to protect children and/or colleagues at risk of abuse in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
- Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children (e.g., food safety, diets, allergies, COSHH, accidents, injuries and emergencies).
- Apply risk assessment principles in documentation and practice; teach children to manage risk and maintain safety.
- Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with professionals to meet individual child needs.
- Develop and maintain professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
- Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person; recognise and apply theories of attachment.
- Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years; advocate for all children s needs, including SEND or EAL support.
- Promote and facilitate children s interpersonal communication, social interactions and sense of identity and culture; support emotional development.
- Assess the environment for effective child-centred experiences in line with curriculum requirements; create inclusive environments indoors and outdoors.
- Support children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about behaviour; support transitions and significant events.
- Analyse observation evidence to plan holistic learning based on each child s needs and interests; facilitate child-centred opportunities and experiences.
- Reflect on practice to develop professionally and personally.
- Identify and apply strategies to support children s ability to manage change and maintain safety.
- Promote and facilitate inclusive and supportive emotional environments that prioritise the individual child s voice.
- GCSE in English (grade
4) and Maths (grade
4) or equivalent. - Communication skills, IT skills, organisational skills, problem solving, team working, creativity, initiative, non-judgemental attitude and patience.
- Physical ability to move quickly and get up and down from the floor as required.
- Wage:
Competitive. £9.00 per hour for the first year of apprenticeship; then national minimum wage for the remainder. - Hours:
30 hours per week for 38 weeks per year during the apprenticeship. Additional hours may be available during holiday club (11 weeks). - Start date:
Monday 9 March 2026. - Duration: 1 year 9 months.
