Key Responsibilities- Installs, modifies, troubleshoots, repairs, and tests new and existing heating, ventilation, air conditioning and odor control systems, equipment, and fixtures.
- Performs HVAC related activities specified by work order.
- Inspects and troubleshoots heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and odor control equipment using tools and techniques of the trade.
- Performs preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on HVAC and odor control equipment according to vendor specifications.
- Installs duct work, hoods, ventilation devices and assemblies using manual and powered tools.
- Obtains necessary parts through established procedures.
- Follows established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures and policies established by MWRA.
- Operates motor vehicles (e.g., vans and pickup trucks) to pick up and deliver supplies and equipment to work sites.
- Performs work in a safe and professional manner.
- Trains peers and subordinates as requested.
- Performs inspections and documents and reports results of inspections and work performed.
- Performs work in compliance with Authority Integrated Contingency Plan.
- Operates equipment manually and through instrument panels and programmable logic control (PLC) units as required in performance of maintenance tasks (equipment may include pumps, valves, gates, meters, gauges, controllers, motor control centers and level control devices).
- Troubleshoots and corrects equipment/systems using condition monitoring methods and equipment.
- Works from manufacturer manuals, blueprints, and schematics; receives verbal instructions to install, repair, troubleshoot, inspect and maintain mechanical, electrical-mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Assists other trades in the performance of their work as required or assigned.
- Works on MWRA building management systems (BMS) and attends BMS training to maintain knowledge of BMS systems in MWRA facilities.
- Works on MWRA heat pump systems and attends heat pump training to maintain knowledge of these systems.
- Performs light maintenance independently or as part of a team, including but not limited to: operating forklift or other light equipment not requiring a special license; inspecting and troubleshooting various systems; installing and retrofitting/new equipment related to plant systems; modifying and/or aligning existing equipment to specifications; setting up ladders, staging and rigging for access; operating portable pumping, ventilation and other equipment;
greasing and lubricating; installing safety rails; removing snow; routine testing, lockout/tagout, startup/shutdown; performing cleanup and housekeeping; and performing related duties as required. - Promotes and participates in productivity improvement plans.
- Trains peers and subordinates as requested.
- Basic reading, writing, mathematical and oral communication skills as normally attained through a high school education or equivalent.
- At least five (5) years of experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of industrial HVAC & related equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A Class D Operator's License (or equivalent).
- A Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician License.
- Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) Certification.
- Complete competency-based training related to ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES as outlined above and demonstrated competencies.
- Complete training in Confined Space Entry, CPR and First Aid within six months.
- Completion of Supervisory Development Program is encouraged.
- Designated as essential in certain situations (e.g., inclement weather or emergencies).
- Eligible for a Sign-on Bonus.
- Thorough knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, hazards and safety practices common to the trade.
- Skill in the operation of tools, instruments and equipment of the trade.
- Be capable of entering, setting up, installing, disassembling confined space equipment and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to attain knowledge and work processes required by reliability-centered maintenance or similar programs.
