Job overviewThe Royal Marsden’s Symptom Control and Palliative Care Team (SCPCT) is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Nurse Consultant to join our team. The SCPCT works in close partnership with oncology services, delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care with a focus on symptom management, complex psychosocial support, and end-of-life care. Our mission is to enhance quality of life, uphold patient choice, and ensure care is delivered with compassion, respect, and dignity at all times.
As a Nurse Consultant, you will:
- Lead a comprehensive palliative care nursing service for cancer patients and their families across The Royal Marsden.
- Spend at least 50% of your time in clinical practice, providing expert care for patients with complex symptom control and palliative care needs.
- Take the lead on End‑of‑Life Care within the team, shaping best practice and driving innovation working closely with the Clinical Lead for Palliative Care.
To be responsible for leading a comprehensive palliative care nursing service for cancer patients and their families who use the Royal Marsden Hospital.
To provide an increasingly patient-focused service particularly for those with complex palliative care needs.
Spend a minimum of 50% of time in clinical practice.

Advise the Divisional Director, Clinical Services and Chief Nurse on all issues pertaining to palliative care in cancer services.
To provide professional leadership for the nursing staff throughout the Trust in palliative care and more specifically contributing to a specialist body of knowledge.
To represent the Chief Nurse on internal and external projects and committees relating to palliative care issues as required, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely manner.
Raise the profile of the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust positively and appropriately locally, nationally and internationally by presenting conference papers, publishing and sharing good practice.
Provide professional leadership for nursing staff across the Trust, contributing to a specialist body of knowledge in palliative care.
Work as an integral member of the senior management team, influencing strategy, education, and service development.
