The Senior Technician is responsible for supporting R&D engineers. The Senior Technician provides assistance in the development of prototypes, test equipment, writing protocols and reports, performing engineering studies and verification tests as part of the R&D function.
In this role, the Senior Technician independently analyzes and solves routine problems and assists in analyzing complex problems with the guidance of mid and upper level engineering. He/she creates Engineering Change requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) without supervision from engineering.
He/she assists the with design and development of products and test fixtures using computer aided drawing packages, preferably Solid Works. He/she also drafts protocols, gathers data, and drafts reports for a series of experiments including verification testing, gauge studies, design of experiments, validation studies and complaint investigations under guidance of R&D engineering.
Principal ResponsibilitiesSupport R&D Engineers as follows:
- Coordinates engineering test builds
- Orders and prototypes requested materials and samples for R&D engineers.
- Documents, collects and organizes engineering data, paperwork and files.
- Independently performs and manages ECRs and ECOs using document control software.
- Develops work instructions with the guidance of mid and upper level engineering.
- Updates components drawings and fixture drawings and has a basic working knowledge of CAD, preferably Solid Works.
- Interfaces with service groups such as document control, manufacturing, quality control and materials to perform job duties.
- Accurately predicts the time required for project tasks.
- Adheres to company policies, rules, procedures and GMPs.
- On occasion, assists on other duties outside his/her primary function.
- Has a clear understanding and working experience of basic mechanical engineering conepts with basic tool shop knowledge.
- Acts as trainer on process documents and manufacturing work instructions.
- Associate Technical Degree or related experience in Mechanical Engineering
- 7+ years working experience as a technician
- Clear understanding and working experience of mechanical systems
- Clear understanding and working experience of Basic Mechanical Engineering Concepts
- Mechanical Tool shop working experience
- CAD experience, preferably Solid Works
- Skill in MS Office
- Excellent verbal & written communication skills including presentations
- Must possess high degree of organizational skills and be a self-starter
- Ability to work in team environments
- Ability to plan and prioritize activities
