This Opportunity WSP is initiating a search for a Senior Geotechnical Engineering Manager for the Merrimack, NH office. The candidate will work with the Geotechnical Engineering Team within the Earth & Environment Group. The role is full-time in the Merrimack, NH office with a hybrid or fully in-person schedule possible. Alternative office locations include Eliot, ME;
Portland, ME;
Chelmsford, MA;
Worchester, MA; or Boston, MA.
This position offers opportunities to contribute to projects involving foundations, soil and rock slopes, and retaining walls for transportation (bridges and highways), pipelines, dams, mining, buildings, and private development. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated education, engineering and management experience in geotechnical & geologic projects across the United States with a focus on New England.
Your Impact
- Provide senior geotechnical/geological engineering review and technical assistance for evaluations, design, report preparation, contract document development, and construction of projects covering soil and rock mechanics, geohazards, soil/structure interaction, subsurface exploration and field testing programs, laboratory testing, geophysical methods, foundations for transportation structures, slope stability, retaining walls, excavation support systems, dewatering systems, instrumentation systems, pavement systems and earthwork operations.
- Oversee data collection and analysis from sites (soil/rock samples, surveys, LiDAR, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geological data) to support project development, design, and construction.
- Apply advanced geotechnical/geological techniques to identify improvements across project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, design/build, procurement, construction, and operation.
- Develop construction plans, specifications, cost estimates, and safety/phasing plans; coordinate with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
- Manage design and construction of infrastructure projects (rehabilitation, grading, drainage, foundations, slopes, retaining structures, embankments, and other soil/rock-supported systems) from proposal through project completion.
- Lead development and implementation of advanced technologies, monitoring devices, materials, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies for safe and functional end-users and transportation systems.
- Lead larger geotechnical/geological projects, manage budgets, track hours/expenses, supervise subcontractors and staff, and ensure performance standards are met.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, regulators, clients, and project sites on engineering projects.
- Assist with engineering reviews of permit applications, design plans, contracts, and standing plans; ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
- Engage with public or private entities to discuss engineering/construction challenges and programs.
- Prepare and review technical documents, engineering drawings, calculations, and cost estimates; deliver reports and presentations communicating findings and recommendations.
- Develop and review data visualizations and analyses for data interpretation and presentation.
- Mentor junior staff, provide technical direction, and support professional development; stay current with geotechnical engineering techniques.
- Support national and regional client programs via participation in technical teams; contribute to business plans and marketing strategies for sector growth.
- Identify regional technical needs and assist in recruiting for related skills in collaboration with senior colleagues.
