Job Overview

As a Roadside Recovery Driver at The AA, you will provide technical support to customers by loading vehicles onto your truck and transporting them to a garage for repair or to any other destination required. Your primary goal is to get customers back on the road safely and quickly, acting as the friendly face of the UK’s largest motoring organisation.

Chelmsford, England (CM1 3SR
) – night‑shift only position.

On‑Target Earnings
  • Guaranteed minimum: £34,987 for CE (HGV 1) licence, £31,615 for C (HGV 2) licence.
  • Target earnings: £42,120 for CE, £36,600 for C licence.
  • Includes a location allowance.
Shift Details
  • Rolling roster: 18 out of 28 days with two weekends off.
  • Standard shift: 9 hours 45 minutes (including 45‑minute break); up to 12 hours per shift may be required.
  • Availability for evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
Responsibilities
  • Communicate professionally with customers, offering reassurance and clear guidance.
  • Work independently and collaboratively across varying weather conditions and different locations.
  • Diagnose and resolve a range of vehicle and logistical issues efficiently.
Requirements
  • Live within 25 miles or a one‑hour commute from the depot.
  • Full Category C driving licence (HGV 2). CE (HGV 1) preferable but not essential.
  • Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) and digital drivers’/tachograph card.
  • Comfortable with new technology; training will be provided.
  • Willingness to work night, weekend, and bank holiday shifts.
