The Mental Health Coordinator, Children will deliver creative and dynamic support for children and young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties, using a range of therapeutic interventions that consider the holistic needs of the family.

The Team

The Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) comprises subject matter experts specialising in housing, domestic abuse, education, drug and alcohol support, youth work and mental health for adults and children. MDT workers bring specialist knowledge and therapeutic insight, re-engaging families, restoring hope and fostering sustainable change.

Accountabilities
  • Initiate and support new ways of working to engage children, young people and families in partnership with colleagues and third sector partners.
  • Deliver advice, support and consultation on children and young people’s mental health issues and frameworks to colleagues and other professionals.
  • Raise knowledge and awareness of child and adolescent mental health issues and preventative strategies across the service.
  • Maintain up-to-date records, produce reports, attend court and give verbal presentations as required. Actively participate in relevant meetings regarding the family.
  • Build strong working relationships across the organisation and partner agencies.
  • Meet specific individual and shared targets and objectives defined annually within the performance management framework.
The Experience You Will Bring
  • Accredited degree or diploma-level qualification in mental health nursing or an equivalent discipline, supported by evidence of excellent practice.
  • Significant experience in developing support packages, accurate recording and thorough assessment, delivered in line with trauma-informed principles prioritising safety, trust and empowerment.
  • Experience applying a range of therapeutic intervention models with children and young people.
  • Strong track record of direct engagement, delivering effective one-to-one and indirect interventions sensitive to the impact of trauma, recognising triggers, avoiding re-traumatisation and fostering resilience through collaborative and strengths-based approaches.
  • Evidence of being a catalyst for positive change in the lives of children, young people and their families.
  • Trauma-informed practice underpins work, ensuring interventions are tailored to individual needs, promote emotional safety and empower families to overcome challenges and build long-term stability.
  • Significant understanding of vulnerability and safeguarding protocols is vital, alongside the ability to integrate trauma-informed strategies into risk assessments and safety planning.
  • Strong evidence of building collaborative and influential partnerships, working effectively within multi-agency environments and fostering relationships that enable coordinated service delivery.
