Salary £30,940 to £36,400 (dependent on experience)
Full time, Permanent – 36 hours per week + participation in out of hours standby
Location – Hanningfield, Chelmsford, Essex

About the RoleWe have an exciting opportunity to join our Water Networks Team as a Distribution Technician, working with your colleagues to deliver excellent service for our customers, communities and the environment. We are looking for optimistic, self-motivated people with great communication skills to join the team looking after our water network and our customers’ needs.
As a Distribution Technician, you will work across the Essex area, managing and resolving customer and network problems. You will be part of a customer‑focussed team contributing to the company’s 14 ambitious goals as part of our action plan for 2026 and beyond.
Our Distribution Technicians offer face to face technical assistance to customers, identifying leaks, faults and any issues that require attention or referral to our repair teams. You will work flexibly in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, both during the day and on standby out of hours;
Health & Safety is paramount for you, the team, customers and the public.
Daily tasks involve maintaining and competently operating our water network to deliver world class customer service, working to water quality measures, reducing leakage, maintaining supplies and ensuring environmental compliance.
Within the Water Network team, you will receive support, training and coaching in line with required competencies and skills. Once you meet these competencies, you will be expected to take part in an operational standby rota.

- You will have excellent communication skills and the willingness to work flexibly in a 24/7 fast paced environment.
- You will be able to work independently using your own initiative, with accountability for making on‑the‑spot decisions.
- You will thrive in an environment that relies on your problem‑solving skills.
- You may have a background in the water industry with experience on pipe networks; this isn’t essential as we offer in‑house training to build that technical ability for the right candidate.
- Successful candidates must hold a full UK manual driving licence and live within our area of operation.

This role has been defined as safety or security critical; a drug and alcohol test is required as a condition of an offer. Our recruitment process will be in two stages: a virtual initial interview, followed by an in-person visit to our head office in Chelmsford for further information and assessments.
