Position: SET CAMHS Crisis Practitioner (Mid/West Team)

Overview

The SET CAMHS crisis and therapeutic home treatment team offer assessment and interventions to young people presenting with mental deterioration or crisis presentations. We now work within the Thrive model and implement collaborative care plans with our community services and community SET CAMHS team to promote positive outcomes for vulnerable young people and their families. There are opportunities here for joint working and coordinating alongside the community based teams.

Our approach focuses on meeting the needs of the young person to ensure effective clinical practice and brief therapeutic interventions, and to reduce risk to have a stabilising impact within a containing approach.

Within the service there are opportunities for development and training in various therapeutic approaches. All new starters will be provided with a full induction and opportunities to shadow the team and learn about the various departments/teams within the SET CAMHS model. We also welcome candidates from internal teams who may be interested in career progression and wish to enhance their practice and skillset in relation to this client group.

Regular clinical supervision and reflective space is offered to members of the team, and the team operates on a shared risk model to ensure that decisions are made collectively with effective formulations of need.

The post holder will benefit from being part of a friendly, supportive, dynamic and developing service based within Essex. The successful candidate will work alongside highly motivated colleagues and have access to effective supervision, both individually and in group formats, and be supported with CPD requirements through relevant training. We are looking for candidates who have enthusiasm and passion for meeting the needs of young people in crisis and supporting the families who support them, as well as being adaptable, enjoying variety, working independently, and understanding the relevance of team working.

Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment, formulation, management and delivery of therapy to people experiencing acute mental health crisis in both community and hospital settings.
  • Assess and manage clinical risk, using dynamic case formulation and collaborate with service users to agree treatment and safety plans.
  • Deliver evidence-based therapies (including DBT, CBT, systemic & creative therapies) within a multi-disciplinary framework.
  • Work flexibly across settings, including young people’s homes, colleges, schools, community settings and A&Es.
  • Formulate highly specialist care and treatment plans, delivering skilled interventions and completing detailed written assessments in a timely manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with relevant legal frameworks relating to children and young people’s care (Children Act 1989, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 as amended).
  • Contribute to safeguarding, risk assessment, and joint working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage busy or complex workloads as part of a team and ensure high-quality care.
  • Maintain and manage clients’ electronic records appropriately.
  • Participate in regular supervision and continuing professional development to meet role requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Possess a current Nursing, Social Work, Occupational Therapist, Counselling, Psychotherapy or equivalent professional qualification (BABCP, HCPC) and be skilled in delivering evidence-based therapy approaches.
  • Experience in assessment and management of clinical risk, with collaborative care planning.
  • Knowledge and experience of working within legal frameworks relating to children and young people’s care (Children Act 1989, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983 as amended).
  • Flexible to work in a service operating 7 days a week, 365 days per year including unsociable hours.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and understand community networks around young people’s mental health.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out high-quality mental health and risk assessments and provide talking therapy and evidence-based interventions in various settings.
