Pharmacy Technician
Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Pharmacy Technician to join our healthcare team within the HMP Chelmsford prison. This role supports the delivery of pharmaceutical services in a secure environment, manages medication administration, and contributes to the effective delivery of pharmaceutical services. Working pattern: 20 hours per week, on a rolling eight-week schedule. The pattern will vary weekly and include weekend coverage.

- Work as an effective member of the Pharmacy team, providing healthcare services including medication administration to patients.
- Assist in delivering a high-quality pharmacy service, providing medicines management to help tackle identified inequalities within the prison.
- Provide pharmacy‑related information to patients, prison officers and other healthcare professionals, ensuring advice is appropriate to need.
- Operate autonomously within the scope of competency while supporting and mentoring less experienced staff.
- Assist with the implementation and development of pharmacy support across residential wings, advising patients on the correct use of medication where appropriate.
- Maintain clear, comprehensive, signed and contemporaneous records (written and electronic).
- Recognise signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol withdrawal and support patients with substance misuse, distress, or risk of self-harm or harm to others.
- Communicate effectively with team members, prison staff and external agencies, both verbally and in writing.
- Undertake all mandatory and additional training as identified.
- Use and promote familiarity with the security systems within the prison.
- Undertake duties as required of a Pharmaceutical Professional in HMP Chelmsford and comply with the competencies, knowledge and skills framework of the Department of Health.
- Qualified with an NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent
- Registered Pharmacist Technician with current General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) membership
- All candidates are subject to prison vetting checks
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-professional team within a fast-paced environment
- Experience in a Prison environment
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Salary of £32,648.00 - £39,177.60 depending on experience, and Group Pension.
