Mental Health Coordinator, Adults – Multi-Disciplinary Team

Fixed Term, Full Time

£46,574 to £56,027 per annum

This position is offered as a Fixed Term Contract / Secondment until February 2028.

The Team

The Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) comprises subject matter experts specialising in housing, domestic abuse, education, drug and alcohol support, youth work and mental health for adults and children. MDT workers bring specialist knowledge and therapeutic insight, instrumental in re‑engaging families, restoring hope and fostering sustainable change. This team's work is impactful and transformative.

The Role

The Mental Health Coordinator Adults will offer intensive support to individuals aged 18+ experiencing significant challenges such as drug/alcohol use and trauma. The hoped‑for outcome is to improve mental health/wellbeing and parenting capacity. The coordinator will build effective relationships with parents/adults, utilise screening tools in assessment, decide interventions, and enable access to community mental health resources. The post holder must have an accredited professional qualification and evidence of excellent practice in casework, recording and assessment.

Strong partnership working in a multi‑agency environment is essential.

Accountabilities (Responsibilities)
  • Provide bespoke assessment, interventions and a range of therapeutic options to adults experiencing mental health difficulties.
  • Conduct holistic assessments including safety plans, considering social, psychological, and physical factors.
  • Provide emotional and practical support to individuals in crisis or with ongoing mental health challenges.
  • Deliver interventions related to problem‑solving, behavioural activation, and relapse prevention.
  • Engage in supervision, reflective practice, ongoing training and contribute to service improvement.
  • Work in partnership with parents/adults to support future engagement with community services.
  • Raise knowledge and awareness of adult mental health issues and preventative strategies among Children & Families colleagues.
  • Provide advice, support and consultation within Children & Families work with families within the quadrant.
  • Deliver advice, support and consultation regarding mental health issues, perspectives and frameworks to other professionals.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date records of activity on case files, produce reports, attend court, give verbal presentations as required, and participate in relevant meetings.
  • Build strong working relationships across the Council, statutory and voluntary agencies.
  • Surgical targets and objectives are set annually within the performance management framework.
Experience You Will Bring (Qualifications)
  • A professional qualification or equivalent accreditation in mental health or related discipline.
  • Significant experience using a range of therapeutic interventions with adults and families.
  • Evidence of direct engagement with adults and successful implementation of one‑to‑one interventions.
  • Deep knowledge of vulnerability and safeguarding protocols.
  • Evidence of being a catalyst for change in adults and families' lives.
  • Strong evidence of building collaborative and influential partnerships to enable delivery.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wider operational area, including traveling across Essex and beyond. Driving licence and car or alternative mobility arrangements are essential.

Next Steps

Candidates shortlisted for interview will be invited to a face‑to‑face interview at an Essex County Council office, typically around the week commencing 11th February 2026.
Upon success, the anticipated start date is April 2026.
