An advanced level position that ensures safe and efficient traffic movement and monitors roadways, including detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic incidents, congestion, and travel time imbalances. The initial contract will be for 30-90 days but is subject to extension upon good performance. One employee is needed for an evening shift (I Shift).
Shift Schedule- Wednesday at 4:30 P.M. until Midnight
- Thursday evening at 2:00 P.M. until Midnight
- Friday evening at 2:00 P.M until Midnight
- Saturday evening 2:00 P.M. until Midnight
monitor roadways, traffic management, Service Patrols, highway patrol
Tasks Include- Perform advanced level operator functions with minimal supervision and established procedures.
- Deferring the most complex issues to a supervisor when necessary.
- Operate various computer-based traffic management systems to manage traffic and incidents on roadways and improve traffic conditions.
- Monitor roadways via surveillance cameras and detection systems.
- Monitor all traffic devices and computer equipment associated with the system.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of the operation of all traffic equipment, computers, and software associated with the traffic systems.
- Utilize traffic equipment for incident management and the improvement of travel time, safety, and quality of life for traveling motorists and toll customers.
- Continuously check the accuracy and validity of the messages displayed on all DMS and 511.
- Be aware of all 511 messages broadcasted on a particular system.
- Enter incident information into computer systems using traffic software.
- Become familiar with the roadways and understand the purpose and location of each traffic device (i.e. detector stations, CCTV, and 511).
- Alert operator staff to new and existing memos.
- Use SOG to detect, dispatch, monitor, and document roadway incidents.
- Coordinate with partners (highway patrol, Service Patrols, Local Law Enforcement, Fire Rescue, etc.) as well as adjacent Traffic Management Centers or other DOT Regions to coordinate resources for incidents that may affect regional travel.
- Dispatch Service Patrols and assist Service Patrols with other tasks, such as phone calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
