Water Fitness Instructor - CD Aquatics

Salary: $16.67 per hour – $20.14 per hour (GS.04)

Work Hours: Monday – Saturday (EST), up to 25 hours per week maximum.

Work Location: 6098 Debra Road, Chattanooga, TN

FLSA Status: Part‑Time Non‑Exempt

Department: Community Development Aquatics

Incumbents provide water exercise instruction, monitor safety, educate participants on fitness and safety, and maintain a safe and enjoyable class atmosphere under direct supervision.

• Teach scheduled classes, provide adequate warm‑up, exercises, stretching and cool down.
• Instruct participants on effective workout methods, explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises, identify muscle groups and teach strengthening methods.
• Prepare appropriate equipment, music and handouts for each class.
• Assist, answer questions and provide a positive exercise experience.
• Inform management of pool activities, facility needs and significant issues.
• Ensure safety standards are met.
• Meet regular attendance requirements.
• Maintain good interpersonal relationships with staff, co‑workers, managers and citizens.
• Accomplish essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations in a timely manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Previous fitness class instruction preferred.
• Ability to achieve fitness certification within 6 months of employment.

• CPR Certification required.
• Lifeguard certification preferred.
• Certified Instructor – ACE, ACE, AFAA, water specialty/certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

Positions typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Medium work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
