The Registered Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. The nurse utilizes therapeutic communication, maintains a safe therapeutic environment, identifies nursing problems related to patient needs, and plans individualized patient care with an interdisciplinary approach. The nurse participates in performance improvement activities and supports the hospital’s mission and vision. When acting in charge nurse role, the RN is responsible for day-to-day activities to ensure delivery of quality patient care in a therapeutic environment.

The nurse may make staff assignments based on patient need and acuity, and serves as a clinical resource and role model for the staff. Responds promptly to requests for information or follow-up on physician, staff, or patient issues.

• Assess plans and evaluate patients’ care needs and carry out physician orders.
• Administer prescribed medications, change dressings, cleanse wounds, and monitor vital signs.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition using appropriate documentation systems.
• Instruct and educate patients and families as part of a multidisciplinary care planning team.

• Registered Nurse from an accredited school of nursing
• Current licensure with Tennessee Board of Nursing
• Current BLS
• ACLS within 6 months of hire
• 2 years of clinical nursing experience preferred
