A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the supervision of a physician. The responsibility of the procedure nurse is to closely monitor patients before, during, and after invasive and noninvasive procedures.
Education:
Required:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
Preferred:
Experience:
1-2 years of surgical specialty procedures
Position Requirement(s):
Required:
Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward.
Preferred:
ACLS
The procedure nurse is responsible for coordinating procedure time and scheduling. They are also responsible for conducting an initial and ongoing assessment designed to gather data relevant to the patient’s individual needs and age group. The procedure nurse will be responsible for starting IV’s, administering medications, drawing lab work, taking patient history, and performing patient assessments. Must be able to recognize risks and complications related to procedures through knowledge of physical assessment.
When not working in the procedure area, the nurse will assist providers and staff in the department within patient care tasks or other duties as assigned.
