Job Summary: The Graduate Practical Nurse Inpatient performs selected nursing functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The incumbent is a non-licensed healthcare provider employed by Erlanger who is responsible for direct and/or indirect patient care.

Key Dates: Next cohort begins June 2026.

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing and eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam for licensed professional nurse (LPN).

• Knowledge of practical nursing principles and practice skills. Medical background required.

• Proof of graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing (final school transcript, copy of diploma, or letter stating NCLEX-PN eligibility and test date). Spring graduates must pass NCLEX-PN exam and obtain Tennessee Practical Nurse Licensure by October 1st;
  Fall graduates by May 1st. Guidelines also apply to out-of-state LPNs who are applying for Tennessee licensure. Tennessee licensure must be obtained within three months of hire date.
• BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and to be maintained going forward.

The Graduate Practical Nurse Inpatient performs selected nursing functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The incumbent provides direct patient care including procedures, activities of daily living and operates equipment necessary for patient care as assigned.

Provides the care needed as described in the unit's policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and skills appropriate to patient age and unit scope.
