RN Staff Nurse – Out‑Patient Surgery Pre‑Op – Full‑Time

Job Summary: A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for the practice of nursing according to state regulations, Erlanger’s models of care, policies, and procedures. The nurse delivers patient care, supervises delegated staff, addresses the physical, spiritual, emotional, and educational needs of patients, and coordinates care with other healthcare professionals. The nurse participates in patient safety initiatives and conducts responsibilities in line with Erlanger’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Experience:

  • Required:

    N/A.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in the delivery of patient care in a similar setting.

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Current licensure to practice nursing in Tennessee.
  • BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and to be maintained thereafter.
  • ACLS required prior to departmental orientation and must be maintained ongoing.
  • Additional certifications as required by the unit.

Preferred

Certifications:

  • Nationally recognized certification in area of practice.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize hand‑off communication and bedside shift reports to coordinate care.
  • Maintain a safe therapeutic environment by complying with hospital policies, identifying risks, and communicating potential impacts on patient safety.
  • Perform and document comprehensive assessments and respond to abnormal diagnostic data.
  • Anticipate emergencies and intervene safely.
  • Develop relationships with patients/families to facilitate collaborative planning.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking, accurate documentation, and adherence to legal requirements.
  • Complete unit‑specific mandatory education and competencies.
  • Provide culturally competent care and apply evidence‑based practice.
  • Manage time effectively, meet punctuality and attendance expectations, and schedule flexibly to support staffing needs.
  • Communicate effectively with all team members and address conflicts as needed.
  • Implement plans of care, identify resources, and communicate changes in patient conditions.
  • Contribute to a healthy work environment through professional behavior and conflict resolution assistance.
  • Complete education and mandatory programs, and contribute positively to unit performance improvement.
  • Update the individual matrix with accomplishments.
