The Network Engineer I plays a key role in supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of Ten Cate’s network infrastructure. This position is well suited for an early-career network professional who has a foundational understanding of networking concepts and is eager to continue developing hands‑on skills with firewalls, switches, access points, and modern security frameworks, including Zero Trust.
This role works closely with senior engineers and IT team members to support secure, reliable, and scalable network operations across a globally distributed organization.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the configuration, monitoring, and management of Palo Alto firewalls, or actively pursue the required training to support firewall administration and network security
- Support deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of HPE/Aruba switches and wireless access points in both wired and wireless network environments
- Participate in routine network maintenance activities, including patching, upgrades, and hardware replacements
- Monitor network performance and health, identify potential issues, and elevate or resolve incidents as appropriate
- Document network configurations, changes, and processes in accordance with company standards
- Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of Zero Trust security principles across the network infrastructure
- Collaborate with senior network engineers and IT staff to support ongoing operations and project delivery
- Basic understanding of firewall administration, preferably with Palo Alto Networks devices, or a strong willingness to learn
- Working knowledge of HPE/Aruba networking solutions, or the ability and motivation to rapidly develop these skills
- Familiarity with core networking technologies, including:
- TCP/IP
- VLANs
- DHCP
- DNS
- STP
- General awareness of Zero Trust security concepts and their application in enterprise environments
- Ability to interpret network diagrams and follow standard operating procedures
- Strong problem‑solving skills and a desire to learn new technologies
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
- Associate’s degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Entry‑level certifications are a plus, including:
- CompTIA Network+
- HPE Network Switching Associate
- Palo Alto Networks Cybersecurity Practitioner
- Experience with network monitoring tools and ticketing systems
- Exposure to public cloud platforms, such as Microsoft Azure
- Detail‑oriented and organized in approach to work
- Self‑motivated and proactive in professional development
- Adaptable to evolving technologies and business needs
- Committed to maintaining high standards of network security, performance, and reliability
Physical Requirements
- Hybrid work environment based in Austin, TX
- Occasional after‑hours work may be required to support updates, maintenance, and outages
- Approximately 15% travel required to support IT projects and team collaboration
- International travel will be required; a valid passport or the ability to obtain one is necessary
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as required for network equipment installation and replacement
